What is Crackle?

Crackle is a new performance and workshop series in Detroit. Every few weeks, Crackle presents electronic, sound art, noise, computer, etc. performers in a casual, low key, low pressure setting. Each event is free to attend. Performances, presentations, installations, improvisations, collaborations, workshops and discussions are all encouraged.

Show us your home-wired keyboard. Demonstrate the software you wrote. Conduct a group of improvisers you've never met. Display your autonomous DJ robot. Unveil your amplified gravel installation. Try out something you've never done before in public.

2004: Crackle is on hiatus.

For more information on the first year of performances and workshops (2002-2003), see below. For more information on current creative music event in SE Michigan, check Scott Boatright's Ear Candy List. Thanks for your interest and support!

#12: Son of Radio Crackle was held on Friday, July 25, 2003. Crackle returned to WCBN's Electric Kingdom show, presenting performances and interviews with Chuck Sipperley & Scott DeRoche (thoughtful electro-acoustic improvisation combined with open-ended composition), and members of the Thinkbox Collective (rhythmic and textured post-techno from this multimedia arts group).

#11: Radio Crackle was held on Friday, June 6, 2003. The kind folks of WCBN's Electric Kingdom show opened up the studio for us, allowing us to present the same kinds of performances and Q & A as we've had at previous in-person Crackles. Only this time, you didn't even have to leave your house -- we did the work, you laid on the couch! Performances included: Analog noise constructions from Will S., Guitar and electronic spaciness from Matt Borghi and Tape loop drones from David Peterson. You can find pictures here.

#10: Crackle #10 (Mystic Moog Orchestra Night) was held on Tuesday, Feb. 4th, 2003. The all-volunteer, all-Moog MMO returned to record a new record. You can find pictures here.

#9: Crackle #9 (Holiday Swap Meet) was held on Tuesday, Dec. 17th, 2002. I had pictures, but they disappeared in a drive crash. Strange Xmas music and holiday giveaways!
